There are many people in the world who fear old age; I do not deny it, it is also a bit one of my fears. Despite this, few people are lucky enough to reach old age with some ailments.

I do not think that old age has a link with death, it can come at any time in life. I think that what many fear is the uncertainty that comes with the years. The truth is that it shouldn't be like that, you shouldn't live in fear of what is to come, but enjoy each stage with peace of mind.

Old age is not about a number of years, but about the passion with which you live. I know many people who do not reach 30 and live like old people; On the contrary, there are people in their 70s who enjoy it better than young people. It is true, age brings its limitations, but it is all a matter of mentality.

At what age is a person considered elderly?

Age standards have changed a lot throughout history.

The first thing to keep in mind is that old age is a concept that changes according to life expectancy. The wider the line between birth and death, the older comes the older age.

For example: in prehistoric times life expectancy was 20 years. In ancient Rome, old age came between 30 and 40 years. In the middle of the 19th century, the maximum expectation was up to 50 years; It is in this way that today a person can reach 82 years of age with just a few physical discomforts. Of course, this depends a lot on the country and the living conditions that people have.

Despite this, whatever age someone is considered old; It is more a question of mentality than of years. Yes, the physical counts, but if you have a young mind, the body acquires renewed strength.

old age and independence

This is an important point regarding old age. When one reaches old age, it is believed that the "older" become slower, clumsier, and dependent; The reality is that this is not entirely true.

It may be that we lose strength and even some physical abilities; however, there are people who, despite being 60 years old, work, exercise, travel; that is, they continue to have an active life in all aspects.

Things change a bit when the person has a medical condition. I think this is the only thing that could make someone slow her down a bit.

I put for example my mother, she does not appear to be 68 years old at all. Due to the hard life she had in her youth, today she suffers from varicose veins and tachycardia. Although these two discomforts have lowered her activity rate, they have not stopped her for a single day. It is true that there are days that are bad, but she is still as active as she was 10 years ago or more.

For an older adult, it is very damaging to depend on someone.

When my maternal grandmother was diagnosed with terminal cancer, her life full of strength and vitality went into decline. She went from one day to the next from being a completely independent woman to not being able to do anything at all. We tried to give her comfort and attention, but depending on her even to go to the bathroom, greatly deteriorated her quality of life.

It has nothing to do with stopping work and starting to collect a pension; you can continue to be active in many different ways, but the disease is very limiting.

wonders of old age

Growing old is not the decline of life; I think it is the highest point where you can look back and contemplate everything that has been achieved throughout existence. Then, it is to look forward and enjoy all the knowledge that was acquired.

Older people are an inexhaustible source of knowledge and experience. I remember sitting next to my grandmother and listening to her tell her childhood stories. Now it's with my mother, she immerses us in a world of adventures and wisdom that only she can have.

Apart from that, my mother knows how to do wonderful things with her hands. The house is completely full of her crochet folders; there are cross-stitch woven pictures and the beds have patchwork quilts and woven bedspreads.

The golden years have their magic; however, few people today have the fortune to enjoy that endearing wisdom.

Frankly, I don't think it matters much what some studies say about aging. For me, a person who loses the will to live, even if he is 25, is as old as someone who is 80 years old and sick. On the other hand, you can be 80 years old and always have renewed strength as long as you want to enjoy life.
